Exclusion Zone Expedition; Day 37.

We penetrated deeper into the exclusion zone today and came upon the remnants of another house. Very little of the structure remains.

What are ghosts? I’ve never believed in them in the conventional sense, yet I feel surrounded by them here. This place is full of ghosts. They mill about me, eat dinner at a table that is no longer here, tell jokes, laugh, fart, fuck. They speak to me. I know that they aren’t really here, of course. But they are!

Radionuclide levels in the area are too high for a detailed exploration of the site. We must move on.

An entry to this week’s Friday Fictioneers photo prompt. I have not done one of these in quite a while. I have been slack with this blog for a number of months now, but I’m going to try to change that.

  1. Of course there have to be ghosts.. they would be glowing with radiation.

Nice story! I hope the ghosts are just his imagination and not an early symptom of radiation sickness.

I’ve missed you of late, good sir. Too long in the exclusion zone? Great story and an apt one for the prompt. (Gotten your Soylent yet? Details please.)

    • Thanks for the compliment. I totally suck at keeping on things like this Friday Fictioneers it seems. At the same time, writing these once a week is really a great way to clear the head, so I should try harder to keep regular with them.

As for the Soylent: Yes, I’ve gotten it and I’ve gone through a number of versions so far. I think the first version I got was 1.2, and it’s currently at 1.4. The earlier versions came as a dry powder plus a small bottle of oil and you had to mix the two together. With version 1.4, the oil is incorporated into the powder, making the preparation process a bit simpler.

Overall, I’m pretty happy with the stuff. The taste changed quite a bit with 1.4, but all versions have a taste that, surprisingly, you don’t get sick of. The latest version seems to have a slight ‘seed’ taste.

  4. Definitely get out of there now! Leave the ghosts behind.

Very spooky. Radioactivity seemed to have done something to the immaterial souls.

  6. globetrotter says:

Welcome back, do another video gosh knows there is plenty of material

  7. Great use of the prompt and the ruins! Loved it!

  8. Dave says:

You get to do that stuff after you’re dead? Sweet!
